On Thursday, April 25th 2019, I made my final student loan payment of $1,501.82. The Kubo is finally debt free after 9 months of student loan payments. In all, we paid a total of $35,786.25.
To be honest, it doesn’t feel as momentous as I thought it would. When my debt was down to around $6,000 I knew that it was only a matter of time before it was paid off. So the anticipation wasn’t as great. However, I am pretty excited for our new goals.
Our new goals this year are to max out our retirement accounts and double our savings account. At the moment, the savings account acts as our emergency fund, but we’re also saving so that we have a good downpayment for our first home when the time to buy is right.
Our long term goals are to max out our retirement accounts and invest a large chunk of money every year. And if we can help it, we never want to take on another debt except for a house mortgage. This is because we would like to be financially independent in the near future, perhaps in our early 40s. This is an important goal for us. We would like to have more quality time to spend together with our families and friends, and the freedom to work on important things, not on whatever will pay the bills. There are other paths in life than working until you’re 65 years old convincing yourself how fun and rewarding your desk job is.
Waiting patiently for you to come home and fuck me! http://bitly.ws/znHX
